Birthdate confirmed from Ash family bible owned by Helen Burden, Fostoria, Ohio. Wife, Nancy's maiden name comes from the death certificate of Margaret Ellen (Mazy) Ash whose death occurred on February 4, 1896. It states her parents were Henry Ash and Nancy Dicken. This is the Mazy Ash who lived with her niece Mazy Roberts Valentine. She was known to the Roberts family as Aunt Dee. From the Bedford Archives Volume 5, page 127, Bedford County Death Records, Mazy Ash, female, single, born at Flint Stone Creek, laborer, died 2/4/1896 of an abscessed liver at Flintstone Creek, daughter of Henry and Nancy (Dicken) Ash, age 67 years. 1830 Bedford County, Southampton Twp. Census (#122, same as Jacob and John) Henry Ash, age 30-40, one female 30-40, 2 females 5-10 In 1840 census in Southampton Twp, #299, same as Amos and John Ash: one male 30-40, one female 30-40, 2 males under 5, 1 female under 5, one 5-10, two 10-15. Lived in Beans Cove, Pennsylvania. Bedford County, PA Orphans court records Book 21, pp. 234-235: Henry died intestate. Grandson-in-law Charley Roberts settled the estate because son Lewis had gone West. David appears deceased, and Sarah was a widow. Heirs mentioned in the settlement were Mazy Ellen Ash; Sarah Lashley, widow; Ruth, wife of Arthur Wilson; J. McClellan Ash; Lewis Ash; Ruth Morrissey, and Mazy Ellen Roberts. Buried in the "Old Ash Cemetery" In a Bible owned by Tom Mackie, who is married to the great granddaughter of Mazy Ellen Morrissey, is information on Henry Ash and Nancy Dicken's family. The Bible is in English and was published in 1833 in Philadelphia. It has all their children's birth dates. References
