Facts and Events
The death of Henry Pauly, Sr., an old and respected citizen here occurred on Wednesday July 18, 1900, at the advanced age of eight seven years. He was a native of Germany, where he was born September 23, 1813. He emigrated to America when quite a young man and settled in Ohio. From there he moved to Illinois where he remained until the year 1855, when he came to Minnesota, and has since been a resident of this place. Mr. Pauly was one of the early settlers of Carver county, and braved all the dangers and hardships of the early pioneer, and by hard labor had made a comfortable home for himself and family. He is survived by a wife and seven grown children all of whom have the sympathy of a host of friends. The funeral was conducted from St. Huberts church of which he was a devout member. After the Civil War in 1865, the Rev. Magnus Mayr formally organized a parish of German Catholics under the title of St. Hubert Church. A small log house was built to serve the parish on land donated by Henri Pauly, the same site where the historic church stands today. ( From Chanhassen Community Profile Network) References
