A copy of HBL's birth certificate is in MARK LINDSEY HERITAGE, p. 62. The certificate is signed by HBL's grandfather, Dr. A.C. Lindsey, with her uncle E.L. Snead, parish clerk of court, witnessing. HBL was salutatorian of her graduating class at Mt. Holly High School in Union Co., AR, according to memoirs composed by her husband in 2000. Graduated from Warner Brown Nursing College, El Dorado, AR, and worked for many years as a nurse in Houston, TX, for Dr. Gebet. In 1999, living with husband Lee in TX, both retired. Obituary from HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 20 May 2006: "HELEN BLANCHE LINDSEY COMPERE, age 84, graduated on May 18, 2006. She was born on April 15, 1922 in Coushatta, Louisiana to Benjamin Dennis Lindsey and Vallie Snead Lindsey. Helen received her Registered Nurse diploma from the Warner Brown Hospital Nursing School, El Dorado, Arkansas in 1943. She worked for many years in private practice with Drs. Edward Gabet, Robert Moers, William Sutton, and Sik Choo. Helen was a member of South Main Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Benjamin Dennis Lindsey and Henry Carlton Lindsey, and her daughter who died following birth, Linda Lucille Compere. Survived by her husband of 62 years, Lee Compere, son, Ben Compere, and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2006 in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer. Interment will follow in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery." |
