Helen Grace Horton, 86 years, of Lambertville, MI died Friday, October 20, 2000, in Swan Point Care Center in Maumee, OH. A Registered Nurse, she worked for St. Vincent's Hospital for 15 years, Dr. Wade, Drs. Ballinger & Hill, Mercy Hospital in Monroe for several years, Hillsdale Hospital and taught Nurses Vocational Training at Hillsdale High School for 5 years retiring in 1972. The daughter of Thomas and Mary (McQuade) Guthrie, she was born June 25, 1914, in Toledo. Helen was a 1932 graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo, graduated from St. Vincent's School of Nursing in 1937, and attended Ferris State College for her teaching certification. She married Walter Horton April 23, 1938, in St. Anthony's Church in Temperance. They also had made their home for 30 years in Hillsdale, MI and wintered in Texas. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 1998. Helen was a member of the St. Vincent's School of Nursing Alumni Association and formerly was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Temperance and St. Anthony's in Hillsdale and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Temperance. She is survived by her loving husband, Walter; children, Barbara (Richard) Linzie of Lambertville, Terrence (Judy) Horton, of Petersburg, MI and Marcia (Bob) Sheline, of Maumee, OH; brother, Thomas Guthrie of Largo, FL; 5 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Friends may call Monday from 3 till 9 p.m. in the Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI, where the Rosary will be recited Monday at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 9:15 a.m. in the Chapel followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony's Catholic Church with Interment in Lambertville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity of the donor's choice.
