[edit] Helen Winans 1921-2011December 28, 2011 Tribune Chronicle| TribToday.com WARREN - Helen Bachur Winans, 90, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at St. Joseph Health Center. Helen was born Feb. 25, 1921, in Ambridge, Pa., the daughter of Kazimer and Kathryn Halaban Bachur. The family moved to Warren in July 1922. Her father's job was transferred to Republic Steel in Warren. Helen attended Warren Township School. She was employed at her brother, Steve Bachur's grocery store until he was drafted into service in 1942. He was in the 8th Army Air Force during World War II. On July 20, 1944, he was killed in action at age 25. Helen's next place of employment was Mullins, Sunlight and Packard Electric Motor Plant for many years. Helen married Harley A. Winans Feb. 19, 1949, and they were together for 46 years until his death May 30, 1995. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening, flowers, country outdoor life, entertaining, taking photos and making family albums. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since the parish was established July 1928. She was a Historian of the Altar and Rosary Society and then the church. Helen is survived by her brother, Walter Bachur of Canton and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Bachur Nolan, and brother-in-law, Raymond Nolan; brother, Steve Bachur, killed in World War II; and sister-in-law, Corinne Bachur of Canton. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home, where calling hours will be held one hour prior. The Rev. Christopher Henyk will conduct the services. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Material tributes may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arrangements were entrusted to Sinchak and Sons Funeral Home. |
