Published in the Kanabec Times, page 14, March 30, 2006 Hattie Akkerman of Mora died on Friday, March 24, 2006, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. She was 91 years old. She was born Feb. 10, 1915, in Manhattan, Montana. At a young age her family moved to rural Iowa and later to Minnesota, eventually settling near Ogilvie, where she met and married Henry Akkerman. They farmed in the Mora area and they raised their family of four children. She enjoyed traveling and spending winters in southern Texas. After Hank's death she enjoyed taking trips with her daughters and daughter-in-law. Her hobbies included gardening, raising beautiful flowers and shopping. She enjoyed getting together with her children and grandchildren. She loved it when her whole family could get together. Another highlight was getting together with her sisters for coffee on Sunday afternoons. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hank Akkerman, sisters, Lena, Bertha and Lucy; brothers, John and parents, William and Grace (Seibenga) Weidenaar.She is survived by her children, Darlene (Larry) Throndson of Mora; Lucille Williams of Edina, Richard (Joan) Akkerman of Alexandria and Russell (Laurie) Akkerman of Lakeville; sisters, Minnie Folkema of Mora, Anna Osterdyke of Long Prairie, Grace (Wesley) Lundeen of Mora and Jennie Hanson of Cambridge; and brother Elkie (Calla) Weidenaar of Hilliard, Florida; grandchildren, Jill, Steve, Ronnie, Rob, Michelle and Natalie; and two great grandchildren Eliza and Jack. Funeral services were held on Wed. March 29, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Mora with Rev. Duane Fowler officiating. Music was provided by D.B. Johnson, Teresa Hasbrook, Becky Anderson and Carol Brandt. Pallbearers were Jim Akkerman, Rob Throndson, Rick Geissler, Steve Throdson, Natalie Akkerman and Michelle Akkerman. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Arrangements were handled by Akkerman Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. References
