According to his son, Vernon L. Joy, Harry was a tiny man due to scarlet fever when he was a child. Cousin Charles Joy joked that "his legs were so bowed, a cat could walk through them." He was tough, though, and helped move pianos during the Depression. They had a dairy and sold milk at one point. They also farmed vegetables, apples (when in Washington state), and other things.
According to Jessica Joy Frost: Everybody called him Hap. He had an eighth grade education and worked as a mechanic, and then as a farmer. He and his wife and sister-in-law Stella raised cows and sold milk-- I have a picture of the "Joy's Dairy" truck. They also had chickens and a regular vegetable garden.
