Knoxville,Illinois Aug 3, 1947 (Galesburg Register) Harry E. Bragg, 68, of 802 East Main street, Knoxville, prominent Knox county resident and former superintendent of the county home and hospital and deputy sheriff, died at this home this morning at 6:45 o'clock as result of a heart ailment. Mr. Bragg had been confined to his residence since last April by illness. However, since that time he managed to carry on his real estate and insurance business, in which he had been engaged since 1939 at Knoxville, despite his condidtion. A member of a pioneer family of Knox County, Mr. Bragg served as superintendent of the Knox county home and hospital from March, 1919 through February 1939. He was employed as deputy in the county sheriff's office from December, 1922, through January, 1929, under the tenure of the late Lou Wilson and Frank Hooker. In addition to handling his business at Knoxville, he had served as tax assessor of Knox township for the past four years. Mr. Bragg always was active in the affairs of the Republican party in the county, and during his many years as a resident of Knoxville hewas identified with civic, fraternity and church organizations, in addition to serving as alderman of the First and third wards in recent years. From 1927 through '29 Mr. Bragg and his family resided in Galesburg, where he was engaged as an automobile dealer, holding the franchise for the old Reo and Velie cars. His place of business was located at 131 North Cherry Street, now the site of the Windish Motor Sales. He also at one time was engaged in farming in the county. He belonged to the Methodist church of Orange township, Knoxville council No 1., of the Masonic fraternity, and the Knoxville Commercial Club. He was concerned with the organization of the Boy Scouts in the Knoxville community. A son of Julius and Mary Harper Bragg, he was born in Chestnut township April 21, 1879, and was educated in the county. He was united in marriage to Harriett Keys of Delong Oct 25, 1903. Mr. Bragg is survived by his wife, and the following sons and daughters: Lyle Bragg, Cincinnati, O.; Dale and Gene Bragg, of Knoxville; Mrs. Carl Reinheimer, Tampa, Fla; Miss Josephine Bragg, Peoria, and Miss Jane Bragg , Knoxville. He also leaves two brothers, Burl Bragg, Creighton, Neb., and Glenn Bragg, Easton, Pa and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services for former deputy sheriff Harry E. Bragg, who died last Friday morning, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Klinck chapel with the Rev. G.G. Cox of Knoxville Presbyterian church in charge. David Swedenberg, Galesburg soloist, sang "the Lords Prayer by Malotte, and Rock of Ages.: with Mrs. Vada Peterson at the organ. Pallbeareres were three sons, Lyle, Dale and Gene Bragg and three nephews, Charles Keys, and Ralph and Chester Hartman. Commitatal rites were held at the Knoxviille mausoleum. Members of the Masonic fraternity and the Knoxville Commercial club attended the service in a body.

Dec 13, 1938 Harry E. Bragg Resigns From County Office (from Knoxvilld paper) Superintendent of County Home and Hospital to End 10 Years of Active Service - Harry E. Bragg, superintendent of the Knox County home and hospital for 10 years, today submitted his resignation to the board of supervisors meeting at the opening session for this term in the county court house. Mr. Bragg asked that he be released from office by March 1. In his letter of resignation he expressed his appreciation of the board's cooperation and also thanked county officials for their aid during his administratin. During the 10 years Mr. Bragg served as superintendent of the county home he introduced many new ideas in the operation of the institution with many of the plans providing a financial saving for the county. With general knowledge of Mr Bragg's intent to resign having been current the last few months, seven applications for the position he is to vacate were received by the board. Those applying were Sam E. Maxner, Fred S. Wallick, James D. Barrett, Earl Young, John H. England and C.M. Thurman, all of Knoxville and R.C. Wise of Delong. In Mr. Bragg's report for the last quarter he stated that at present time there are 42 men, 11 women and 3 paying patients no located at the home.
