obtained the first temperance law for the state of Missouri in 1883. She was at the time of her death, Vice President of Forest Park University, an institution founded by her sister, Mrs. Anna Sneed CAIRNS, in 1861, its President for many years.

10 Dec 1909-Park Almanac News: with picture-Mrs Harriet Elizabeth Worthington, 64 years old, once president of Forest Park University, author and originator of the scientific temperance law, requiring the teaching in the public schools the physiological effects of alchol, accepted in St Louis in 1884 adn later universally in the United States died yesterday of enlargement of the spleen at her residence at the university.

Mrs Worthington was a member of the Missouri WCTU and was superintendent of scientific investigation for the association. She also was prominently identifed with missionary work, attended the Second Presbyterian Church and belonged to the Southwest Board of Foreigh Ministers.

She was actively engaged in teaching at the university for about twenty years up to five years ago, when she was taken ill, and since has spent much of her time in traveling, tyring to regain her health.

Mrs Anna Sneed Cairns, sister of Mrs Worthington, is president of Forest Park University.

Mrs Worthington was born at New Albany, IN, the daughter of the late Samuel K Sneed, who was for fifty-four years a Presbyterian Church worker in Missouri. She was a graduate of Monticello Seminary. She married James Worthington of Pittsfiled, IL. Her husband took a prominent part in the civil war, being thanked projusely by Gen US Grant for taking a ship load of hospital stores and ????? past Vicksburg to Grant's Army during the siege.

Mrs Worhtington had seven children, four of whom survive her. Miss Harriet E Worthington, a graduate of Wellesley College, residing at Forest Park University; Arthur T and Jesse J Worthington, farmers in Colorada, and James Worthington. She leaves four grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon from the university; interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery,near Kirkwood.
