Facts and Events
The name Janes is sometimes referred to as Jones. The Janes name is taken from "The LeCount/Laforge Family History" by John Joseph Christeson, 3/66. Potential parents names were found in Fishkill NY Census from 1850 where we find a five year old Hariet. By 1860 the Hariet Jones in the prior census was working as a servant in another household, as she also is in the 1865 census. If this is our Harriet she married Uriah in 1868 before the 1870 census. The marriage record indicates that the wedding took place at “Mr. Jones’ near Hughsonville, NY”. Fishkill is 8 miles from Hughsonville. Her often used middle name Tuttle appears to me to be an error - a confusion perhaps with a MA woman named Harriet Tuttle Wallace. No records can be located with Tuttle in the name nor can any proof be found for her mother’s maiden name having been Tuttle. And her appearance in many Ancestry family trees as the daughter of Charles R Wallace and Louisa Boomer makes even less sense, as Wallace would have been her maiden AND married surname and we know her maiden name to have been Jones.
