Herman Roos and his wife Gerharda Jacomina Bergkamp,of Coevorden,Drenthe,Netherlands,emigrated to Montreal,Canada,along with their children,landing in October 1909,and made their way to Medicine Hat,Alberta.
In 1924 they,along with their daughter Mina Vlaar's family,emigrated to Oak Harbor,Washington,where they lived on their farm on Swantown Road until 1935.Herman and his wife returned to Alberta at that time,to be near their son Johannes and other family members.

Herman spent time as a patient in the Ponoka Hospital,his death occurred there in 1939.
He may have suffered from dementia.
Herman's burial is located in Forest Home cemetery,in an unmarked grave in section 4.This section was purchased by the Ponoka Hospital,when families were unable to bury their loved one,the hospital provided the service.
