Facts and Events
Name[1] Hanss Jauch
Gender Male
Birth? Abt 1590
Marriage Abt 1620 to Maria _____
Death[2] Bef 1649

In the Schwenningen Death records there is a Maria, wife of alt Hanss Jauch, who dies 14 Mar 1670, age 69 (therefore born abt. 1601). Right age for this guy.

Beate Graf claims that Hanss' father was STOFFEL Jauch. But according to Peter Schifferdecker's web site, Hans was one of two sons of a Gorgus Jauch. Apparently it went something like this:

In the early 1500s, there were two brothers: Mattheus/Theis Jauch and Mathis/This Jauch. These two brothers purchased farmland from the St. Georg church and/or St. Blaisin's monastery in Schwenningen. It looks like Mattheus/Theis ended up as sole owner of this land, although Mathis/This appears to be documented as having other land with HIS son, another Theis. (The similarity in their first names confuses things greatly for me...)

One of these Mattheus' (and I'm not sure which one) marries twice. From his first marriage comes son Georg/Joerg Jauch. From his second marriages comes another Georg/Gorgus, as well as Ewald (who doesn't live long), and Stoffel (Christoph).

Somewhere in here is a Michael Jauch, but I don't know from which branch.

When Matheus dies, the second wife manages to get the land away from her stepson for her own two sons. But then she dies, and the oldest son, Georg, takes the fight to the equivalent of the city council, which divides the land up between the three men, with the caveat that when Georg the oldest dies, his land must be sold to the owners of the rest of the half (the Abbott of the original church/monastery insisting that the property end up in only one owner's hand). This apparently comes about, as the oldest Georg dies around 1598, and the two younger brothers (Gorgus and Stoffel) purchase the land. But apparently, their wives don't get along and another fight over the land ensues. I could not figure out what the outcome of this fight was.

In 1610, the records mention that a Michael Jauch inherits or otherwise comes to own some portion of the land. (Is he perhaps the son of the original Mathis/This Jauch?)

In the meantime, Gorgus has two sons, Hanss and another Georg. I believe that THIS Hanss Jauch (in this FTW record before you) is the oldest son of Gorgus. So I think the original tree looks like this (correct me if I'm wrong, please!):

1a. Matheus Jauch

   m1.
        2a. Joerg/Georg Jauch
   m2.
        2b. Georg/Gorgus Jauch
              3a. Hans Jauch [THIS ONE]
4a. Katharina Jauch (m. Michael Jauch)
              3b. Georg Jauch
        2c. Ewald Jauch (dies young)
        2d. Stoffel/Christoph Jauch

1b. Mathis Jauch (brother to 1a above)

   2. Theus Jauch

"Inventuran-u. Teilungen" is my source for the death date of the father of Catharina Jauch - Hans Jauch. In 1649 he is mentioned dead.
