Hannah Horton Whitaker CEDAR CITY--Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah Horton Whitaker, 72, of CedarCity and Circleville, will be conducted at Circleville Thursday at 2 p. m. Mrs. Whitaker died at her home here Monday, after an illness of severalmonths. She was the widow of J. C. Whitaker Sr., prominent Piute county stockman and banker. Mr. Whitaker died December 17, 1931. Mrs. Whitaker was born at Beaver, April 20, 1864, a daughter of George andSarah Ann Butler Horton, early Utah pioneers. She was married on April 2,1888, at Beaver to Mr. Whitaker and had lived in Circleville since thattime, residing here part of the time since 1931. Mrs. Whitaker was wellknown for her generous philan-thropies to church and civic enterprises. She is survived by two sons and four daughters James C. Whitaker, Salt LakeCity; Earl H. Whitaker, Mrs. Douglas Q. Cannon, Circleville; Mrs. ElbertCox, Richfield, Mrs. A. R. Thorley and Mrs. John S. Christensen, Cedar City;two brothers, Richard Horton, Blackfoot, Idaho, and George Horton, Circleville, and nine grandchildren. Interment will be in Circleville cemetery, under the direction of Warner mortuary of Richfield.

Died 5 October 1936, at Cedar City, Iron, Utah, of lobar pneumonia.(p. 283, book 6) Funeral services held 8 October 1936, at Circleville, conducted by bishop. Buried at Circleville; stone reads: "Mother".

5 August 1903: Signed petition asking County Commission to consolidate Circleville and Lost Creek School Districts, claiming that neither district "is able to build a school house of sufficient capacity to accommodate all the children of their respective districts, nor to grade the scholars according to their merits, resulting in the holding back of children that ought to be advanced, for their slower going class mates."
