Yancey State: Virginia; CountY: Mecklenburg; Dated 1819; Proved: 1819; Recorded: Will Book 8 p 44 In the name of God, Amen, I Robert Yancey, Sen. of the county of Mecklenburg, state of Virginia of sound mind and memory do make, ordain and constitute this my Last Will & Testament trusting in a savior for redemption. [several other item] 4 - Imprimis - I give unto my son Hezekiah the track of land he is now living upon containing by estimation one hundred and ninety five acres to be the same more or less rated at fifty shillings per acre, also one negro boy named Haborn rated at forty five pounds, featherbed and furniture rated ten pounds, also one hundred and twenty dollars that I have lent him to him and his heirs forever.
1857 “Information Concerning Negro Slaves Extracted From Yancey Family Records,” from www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/7647/slaves.htm, 4/4/06, the folowing reference [I need to refer to the original record]: Hezekiah Yancey (1782-1860) 1820, Census - Mecklenburg Co., VA Recorded as owning 3 slaves. 1857, Will - Mecklenburg Co., VA, Directs selling of negro man named Habor. Hezekiah Yancy died in 1860. 1870 US Census (VA, Mecklenburg, Clarksville Dist., stamped sh. 383b, ln 12, dwelling 834)), Hepburn Yancy (possibly Hebron?) Yancy, 56, black, b. VA, couldn’t read or write, works on farm, no notation about value of real or personal property; “Isclia”, 33, black, b. VA, couldn’t read or write; Martha J. 13, b. VA, works on farm, couldn’t read or write; Mary S. 12, b. VA, couldn’t read or write, works on farm; Emma 10, b. VA; Alice J. 6, b. VA; Howard 3, b. VA; Roberta 3 mos, b. VA in February. 3 of the children match, Izeal’s age is close (off by 2 years), and I suspect that this is the proper family. |
