BURLINGTON - Mr. Grady Nelson Mebane, 72, of 2158 Canterbury Drive, died at 9:29 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Alamance Regional Medical Center. A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs.. Barbara Schmidt Mebane who survives, and the son of Mr. Grady McFarland Mebane and Mrs.. Evie Martha Fuqua Mebane, both deceased. He was retired from AT&T, a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Triangle Woodworkers Association. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 17th Airborne 513, P.I.R., Co. D. in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the First Christian United Church of Christ. Survivors other than his wife of the home include two daughters, Mrs.. Steve (Tracy Ellen) Demeyer of Fredericksburg, Va. and Mrs.. Chris (Toni Marcelle) Sweesy of Cary; one sister, Mrs.. Luther (Wilda) Ross of Burlington; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs.. James D. (Nora) Phillips. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Beth Kinnett, associate pastor at First Christian United Church of Christ, and the Rev. Robert Linens, pastor of Mount Hope Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 7 to 9 tonight and at other times, at the home. |
