Facts and Events
TIDBITS: Godfrey Dotson was a descendant of the Paw Paw Dotsons who were Arnolds rather than Dotsons. (MJC). Godfrey apparently was named for his maternal great grandfather, Godfrey Daniel Stout. (JD) He was known in the family as "Grandpa Dan" and along with his brother, known as "Uncle Dave", were active in civil endeavors and were land owners. (HGD) Godfrey was a relatively small land owner (30 acres on tax rolls) until after the death of his father, when he became owner of several large parcels of land, probably from inheritance. (JD) MIGRATION: In 1850, Godfrey was living in the part of Tazewell County that later became Buchanan County. After the war, he moved with his half-brother, David H., and some of their sons, to Pike County. They are listed in the 1860 Census of Pike County. STATUS: Julius Daugherty has him b. 11/23/1827. No children with Elizabeth. No marriage record found for Daugherty/Dotson union, but there were children. |
