Gladys Irene Davis was Don Doyle Jaynes' mother. She was born in 1912 and was the next to the youngest child in her family. In 1925, after her parents and a brother and sister died of influenza, Gladys and Lorraine moved
to Dallas to find work. Lorraine was 15 and Gladys was 13. They found work sewing burlap bags and made a life for themselves.
Gladys met Louis and they were married in 1930. She became sick with tuberculosis about 6 or 7 years later and spent the rest of her life in and out of hospitals. During this time she and Louis separated and for awhile she tried to raise Don on her own, working as a clerk in a small store. She died in 1941 at 29. She was buried in Pleasant Mound Cemetery,in Dallas.
