Gladeth Bastin, age 20

Gladeth Bastin was the son of Emmet Brockman Bastin and Harriet Alice Kincart. Gladeth married Ida Grim in September, 1905, in Rexford, Kansas. They had two children: Florence and Mabel Bastin.

Oral Traditions

Vera Bastin wrote: "Gladeth Bastin was a brother of Harvey Bastin. He was such a likable man, and had such sparkling brown eyes. He told Alvin that if he was picking he would pick me (Vera). How can you help but like someone like that?"

Obituary

Funeral services will be held this morning (Thursday) at 10:00 at the Presbyterian Church in Hill City for Gladeth Bastin, brother of Harvey Bastin of Oberlin, who died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his home in Hill City. He would have been 70 years old this month. Mr. Bastin was well known in this area, having spent most of his life in the Rexford community. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters; Florence Jones of Hill City and Mabel Hemp of Kanekee, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bastin and their daughter, Mrs. Harold Hill, planned to drive to Hill City this morning to attend the services.
