Gilbert Kenny Sponaugle, 80, of HC 75, Box 44, Circleville, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.

He was born May 5, 1924, at Hunting Ground, Circleville, the son of the late Gilbert Sponaugle and Annie Mallow Sponaugle.

He was married to Pauline Warner Sponaugle.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Jason Dale Sponaugle; five brothers, Zallie Sponaugle, Eber Sponaugle, Bennie Sponaugle, Brison Sponaugle and Berlin Sponaugle; and two sisters, Shirley Johnson and Ethel Arbogast.

He was a timber cuter and farmer and served in the 1st U.S. Army in World War II.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Franklin. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at North Fork Baptist Church. The Rev. Interment will follow in the Sponaugle Family Cemetery. Military graveside services will be by the Pendleton County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to the North Fork Rescue Squad or the Circleville Fire Department.
