The John and Mary Robinson family arrived in Edwardsville, Illinois Territory, in 1809, but their son, Gideon, listed in his father's will, married prior to 1809, remained in Lincoln County, North Carolina. Although It's possible that the discovery of additional sources and differing interpretations may affect conclusions presented below, this Gideon bio is respectfully submitted:

Born circa 1785, Gideon Robinson married Patsey GIngles in late 1806, or early 1807, Lincoln County, North Carolina. "Lwn Henderson" was the bondsman on the couple's 25 December 1806 marriage bond. This was probably the same bondsman for Gideon's brother John Jr.'s marriage of 1815, Lawson Henderson. If so this was Lawson Henderson (1774-1843), father of James Pinckney Henderson (1808-1858), destined to be lawyer, soldier, and then the first governor of the state of Texas.

Patsey and Gideon Robinson had a son, John W., born in 1808 and from 1820 through 1830, this Robinson household is reflected on census entries of Lincoln County, NC. The couple's son John W, married Mary Clark, bond 1 December 1829, in Lincoln County, NC, and these two had moved to Floyd County, Georgia, by 1840. A widower in the early 1830s, Gideon married Cathy Carolina, 1834, Lincoln County, NC, and in 1840 this couple, also, lived in Floyd County, GA.

On 19 December 1844, Floyd County, GA, the widower Gideon Robinson married Margaret Jones. Census entries interpreted for Gideon Robinson households 1850 and 1860 reflect a prosperous family, Gideon a "mechanic,"' and include his wife Margaret and children Jane L. and Mary E.

Jane L. Robinson married George N. Yarbrough 18 October 1860. A Confederate soldier of Georgia, Yarbrough was promoted to Full Captain on 20 Dec 1861 and mustered out on 02 Jul 1863 at Gettysburg, PA, a casualty of the battle. In Captain Yarbrough's December 1863 probate papers, John Robinson, Gideon's son, was appointed administrator. Because Capt. Yarbrough's wife Jane was not mentioned, it is believed that she died prior to December 1863.

Gideon Robinson died ca. 1863. In probate, his son John is "appointed guardian of Mary E. Robinson orphan of Gideon Robinson" and she is to receive a sizable estate. Although Gideon Robinson's name did not appear on this cemetery index, his memorial was placed here because his son, John Robinson (1808-1868), was interred here.
