Per his father's will, Gideon and William became wards of Susanna and Abraham Batchford in 1810.

On the 1850 Census, Gideon's daughter Louisa was listed in the household of E.S. Blackly, a few homes away from Gideon's home. Harriet was apparently married to Joel Rush, and living in Cumberland Twp, Greene Co, Pennsylvania with three children and her sister Elmyra. Gideon, wife Leah, and children Miller, William, Daniel and Mary Ann were in the same household.

Gideon's will, #2921, is in the Waynesburg Courthouse, Greene Co, Pennsylvania.

Most of his children were born in Richland Twp (?), Belmont Co, Ohio. He moved his family back to Pennsylvania from Ohio some time before 1838, according to the 1850 census birth information for Daniel. If the 1870 census can be believed, he would have been in Ohio until sometime between 1832 and 1840, when he would have been in West Virginia. Then, sometime between 1840 and 1858, he moved back to Pennsylvania.
