At about the age of ten Gertrude went to England with her grandparents.

At about the age of 12 she and some girlfriends decided that they didn't like their names so they changed them, Grammie changed her name to Barbra. I was in my late teens before I knew that wasn't her real name.

From the diary of Helen Annetta Wisham: The diary was given to her at Christmas, 1932. Her address then was: 32 E Wharton Ave, Glenside, PA. She was married on June 22, 1934. On July 30, 1934 she said "Moved to 1706 W Tioga." On June 15, 1936, she says "Gertrude, Nori, Kay and Paul moved in with us. Hope it works out all right." On Sept 14, 1936, she says "Gertrude, Kay and Nori moving to 69th St. Paul staying.
