Gertrude Edith [Shultz] Musser entertaining lady.
Jon Shultz - Feb 24, 2001 Categories: Family Communication, Genealogy interests Toni and I stopp ed off in Bellevue OH to see Edith yesterday. Edith knows a wealth of family history which she joyfully shares with th ose who are willing to listen. Her father Alrick Brazil Shultz was a first cousin of my grandfather Arch ie Shultz. Gertrude's uncle Walter Shultz married Florence Justina Ahrens. My au nt Geneva Shultz married Florence's brother Ralph Andrew Ahrens. This br other and sister were from Cincinnati OH. I had always wondered how two individuals from little old Risingsun OH h ad ended up marrying two big city folks from southern OH. Gertrude tells it this way. Walter Shultz was fifteen years old and saw three of his older brothe rs go off to WW I. Walter lied about his age and ended up in Europe where for some reason [pe rhaps German poison gas] he had to have a kidney removed. When the army found out his age, he w as sent to NY City. Since at that time people with one kidney were only expected to live but f ive years, Walter was sent to an army hospital in Cincinnati OH. Here he met his future wife-----and not dying in five years--- married a nd moved back to Risingsun. Walter died August 26, 1986. My aunt Geneva and Florence's brother Ralph married and lived in Risingsu n, but later moved to the Cincinnati area. Before my father [Cecil Jay Shultz] died, he, my mother, and Nan would oft en travel for weekend stays and visits with Ralph and Geneva. The two fa milies would meet at a motel between Toledo and Cincinatti for a weekend r etreat. added by Jon Jay Shultz on December 23, 2003. |
