    BARRETT, Gerard "Gerry" In loving memory of Gerard "Gerry" Barrett, 88 years, of Sudbury, who passed away Monday evening, December 15th, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Toronto and married Helen Alexander in Toronto in 1951. A longtime resident of Sudbury, Gerry had worked for Neilsen's Chocolate Co. for 25 years retiring in 1983. A proud Canadian he served overseas during WWII with the Canadian Army and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 76, Sudbury. An accomplished athlete he played professional football with the Tiger Cats and Argos. He was a keen sports fan having a great appreciation for well played sporting competitions. On a personal note he enjoyed golfing in his retirement years. A devout Roman Catholic he was an active member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church where he participated in parish projects and ministries. He was a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus. Always quick to help others he had been a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a neighbourhood canvasser & coordinator for the Canadian Diabetes Association and Arthritis Society. The light of Gerry's life, love and laughter inspired all who knew him. The twinkle of his eye now twinkles as a bright star in God's Heaven. Beloved husband of Helen Alexander Barrett predeceased 1994. Loving father of Mary husband Al Blanchard of Sudbury, James wife Linda of Sault Ste. Marie, Maureen husband Ted Dietrich of Elmsdale, N.S., Michael wife Sandra of Hamilton and Bernadette husband Ed Porasz of Toronto. Dear son of James and Mary Ann Barrett both predeceased. Cherished grandfather of Sarah, Sean, Rebecca, Shawnna, Ryan, Peter, Neil, Mark, Alex, Katie, Lindsay, Laura and great grandchild Tyler. Dear brother of Mary Ware of Toronto and the late Thomas and Norbert Barrett predeceased. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Resting at the JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME, 233 Larch St., Sudbury. Funeral Mass in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 1250 Barrydowne Rd., Sudbury, Friday, December 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation in the Parklawn Crematorium. Donations to the Northern Cancer Research Fund would be appreciated. Friends may call from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday.0
