COL. GERARD ALEXANDER was born on 12 Dec 1773 in Prince William County, Virginia. He married first Elizabeth Ashton Alexander, daughter of Col. William Alexander and Sigismunda Mary Massey, about 1795. He married second Matilda Ann(e) Douglass, daughter of Benjamin Douglass and Anne Ward Middleton, on 2 Sep 1819 at Greenville, Prince William County, Virginia. On 14 Mar 1837 in Edenton, Chowan County, NC he married third, Elizabeth (Innes) Alexander, widow of Thomas Casson Alexander and daughter of Judge Harry Innes and Elizabeth Callaway. He died on 19 Mar 1853 in Campbell County, Virginia, at age 79, and was buried at St. Stephen's Church, Forest. His estate was probated on 11 Jul 1853 in Campbell County, Virginia.

Gerard Alexander made a deed of gift, probably a wedding gift, to his son, Col. Gerard Alexander on 1 Oct 1795 in Prince William County, described as "561 acres bought from Philip Fitzhugh being part of Benton's tract."

On 13 Feb 1812 Major Gerard Alexander was unanimously recommended to be commissioned Colonel of the 89th Regiment of the Virginia Militia to replace Col. William Tyler in Prince William County, Virginia.

Shortly before he married Matilda Douglass, Col. Gerard Alexander made a deed of gift on 25 Aug 1819 transferring the property he inherited from his father to his children as well as the slaves "I received from their deceased mother" to their children: Frances, Edward Clarendon, Henrietta, Sigismunda, Henry Ashton, Sarah Foote, Anne Foote, and Laurence Gibbons Alexander. The deeds were recorded in Fairfax County and in Prince William County, Virginia.

The Trustees of Christopher Clark sold 450 acres on the waters of Buffalo Creek to Gerard Alexander on 31 Jan 1827 in Bedford County, Virginia. This is the land that is presently the Timberlake community. The Grove

Here's a map of the location of Gerard's land [1]

Gerard was a Vestryman at St. Stephens Episcopal Church from the earliest days of Russell Parish and served as Chairman of the Vestry for many years. He was last elected to the Vestry in 1847.

Gerard was also a member of the Board of Trustees of New London Academy from 1826 through 1850 and was named its President in 1837, a position he held throughout the 1840s. [The Spirit of New London Academy and Bedford County, Virginia, 1840-1860, W. Harrison Daniel.]

He and Elizabeth Innes appeared on the census of 27 Jul 1850 in Campbell County, Virginia, living at The Grove.
