- page 66 "Melvin's son Gerald was one of my playmates in the twenties. Iremembered Gerald, who heads the familiar Krumm facial features, sittingin a wagon and his mother pulling it around my grandparents is yard. Atthe beginning of our brief stay at Shepherd, Gerald came up to mesomewhere and said "hello"-hesitantly, I seem to remember. It must havebeen at Franklin junior high school on the other side of Franklin Parkin Columbus, where we were both enrolled. I expected to take up withthat old acquaintance, but my mother didn't respond. Probably she waskeeping her distance from a family in trouble. The family moved, Isuppose, during that year to the converted filling station Bill Stelzerdescribes."
