Dick was born on a farm near the Sac & Fox Native American Reservation in the Oklahoma Territory. He lived there with his parents and siblings until they moved to Kansas and lived briefly there were Dick attended First Grade. Next the family moved to a dry land farm south of Caddoa in Bent County, Colorado where he lived until moving to Denver in 1926. He became a cattleman of his own then, and enjoyed that life with only a pause to work at Gate's Tire and Rubber Company during the war. He had a cow-calf operation east of Denver on the old Lowry Bombing Range and in Burlington. Dick traveled over nearby parts of Nebraska, Wyoming, and once to Texas, as well as Colorado to buy cows. Dick married a Bent County neighbor girl, Vi Cathcart, in Denver in 1937. They worked together and their lives flowed with the cattle market until Dick had to retire for health reasons. After Dick died in 1991 his funeral was well attended by relatives, friends and business associates. Dick's eulogy written by his daughter was read by friend of the family, Eileen Weidman. His pallbearers were Robert Clayton, Paul Cooper, Leo Glenski, Dene McCormick, Hal Webster, Dick White, and George White. Spouse Violet Evelyn Cathcart White 1919–2004 |
