  1.   George Clinton Trammell Jr, 72, of 4 Pembroke Place, died Wednesday at 11:30 pm in a Rome hospital following an extended illness.
           Mr. Trammell was born in Floyd County, May 1, 1915, son of Floy Nabers Trammell and the late George Clinton Trammell Sr, and had lived in Rome most of his life. He was a member of North Rome United Methodist Church and prior to ill health he was a brick mason and general contractor, was president of AFL-CIO for 18 years and was instrumental in forming the Central of Georgia Labor Union and served as president for a number of years. He was a charter member of the Board of Directors for the Rome Boys Club, and honor graduate of Rome High School class of 1934, was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Navy and was Light Heavy Weight Champion of his fleet division. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Trammell, May 6, 1987, to whom he was married July 23, 1934, and his father, January 27, 1963.
           Survivors include one son, George Clinton (Pat) Trammell III, Rome; three daughters, Mrs. Mary Carol Griffin, Mrs. Connie Ross Shaw, and Mrs. Ellen Olivia Mathis, all of Rome; mother, Mrs. George Clinton Trammell Sr, Athens; two sisters, Mrs. Roy Green and Mrs. Connie T. Penley, both of Athens; brother, James Avery Trammell, Kings Mountain, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren
           Funeral and interment services will be held at 11 am Saturday from the graveside at East View Cemetery with the Rev. Leland Bagwell and the Rev. Charles Nicholas.
           The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends today from 7 until 9 pm and at other hours will be at the home of the son, Pat Trammell, 10 Dell Place.
           Pallbearers include Clint, Boyd, Kurt and Phil Trammell, Charles Griffin Jr, Dayton Shaw, Dan Mathis and Ed Earle. An honorary escort will be comprised of Delmas Franklin, Stanley Payne, Jimmy Johnson Sr, Wilson Cook, Robert A. Meroney, Fain Bishop and Jim Hillin.
