Facts and Events
The following is just a portion of email written by Linda Steorts Kaufman and found here: http://searches2.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/HCPD/2006-06/1149814316 Re: Spelling of the Steorts name. In George Steorts' will in 1851 the name is spelled STEORTS, STORTS, and STOTS. Of his three sons, James, the oldest, died during the Civil War after being in prison. He fought for the North and as far as I know died with no wife or children. The youngest, Perry Commodore, went to Missouri in the 1850s, fought for the South. He was supposed to have fought with Quantrill's Raiders, with the James brothers, also with Stephen B. Elkins. But that is another story. Perry and his descendants spelled the name STORTS. My uncle Earl STEORTS used to go visit Perry's family in about 1950. There is a great grandson of Perry's, Brick Pomeroy STORTS III or IV, who is an attorney in Arizona. His father was a doctor there. My great grandfather, George Washington STEORTS, seems to be the only one to have continued the STEORTS spelling. References
