1872 - Baptism: George, son of George Richard ROLFE, tailor and draper, and Emily, of Kenninghall. Aged 18 months. George was baptised at the same time as his mother, two of his cousins, an uncle and 2 aunts. Another uncle, Rev Joseph HUGHES, Rector of Chellaston, Derbyshire, performed the ceremony. Joseph's wife Ellen (née WOMACK) had died just a few months previously.

1881 - With father and mother living at White Horse Inn, Market Place, Kenninghall. Scholar, aged 9.

1891 - With father and step-mother at Knapton. Name recorded as Nelson. Aged 20.

1901 - Unmarried, aged 30, and living with step-mother in Knapton. Ordinary agricultural labourer. Name recorded as George Nelson.
