George was likely born in Clear Creek precinct, Polk County, Nebraska. His family was enumerated there in the 1880 US census. Within a few years the family moved to the nearby town of Osceola and went into the general store business. George's father managed a general store in Boelus, Howard County, Nebraska in 1890 and by 1894 was advertising a general merchandise store in Osceola.
Meanwhile George moved west. In 1900 he was clerking in Green River, Wyoming. By 1903 he owned a building in nearby Linwood, Daggett Co., where the Smith and Larsen Mercantile Company did business. In 1909 he took over the business and ran it until it was inundated by the Flaming Gorge Dam reservoirs4.
In 1925 George married Minnie Crouse. Minnie had been married before and had a daughter. In the 1930 US census George, his wife Minnie and Minnie's daughter Mary Lou Ronholt were enumerated in Linwood, Daggett Co., Utah.

    Linwood Man Honored By Funeral Service
    Funeral services were held October 19, honoring George Rasmussen, 86-year-old pioneer of Linwood, Utah, who died October 13, following a heart attack, at the Sweetwater Memorial Hospital in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
    Mr. Rasmussen for the past 53 years had been in the mercantile business and only last summer closed his Linwood store, due to the Flaming Gorge reservoir site which was to inundate his property. The government had purchased the site to make way for the reservoir.
    Mr. Rasmussen was born January 19, 1876 in Nebraska, remaining there until 1909 when he moved to Green River, Wyoming.
    In 1925 Mr. Rasmussen was married to Minnie Crouse, who survives him. Also surviving are a daughter Mrs. Mary Wadsworth and two grandchildren.

    The Smith and Larsen Mercantile Company of Linwood, Daggett County, Utah was established on 16 November 1903 in a building owned by George Rasmussen. ... In 1909, George Rasmussen assumed the management of the business. ...The construction of Flaming Gorge Dam brought an end to Linwood and the sixty year businesses of Smith and Larsen and The Linwood Mercantile Companies.
