Amelia Rasmussen was likely born on the family farm in the Clear Creek precinct in Polk County, Nebraska. The family later spent time in Boelus, Nebraska, but moved back to Osceola, Polk County, Nebraska. Amelia graduated from high school there in 1897. In 1910 she is a high school teacher in Jefferson, Douglas County, Nebraska and by 1913 Amelia was Polk County Superintendent of Schools. She held that job until around 1922.

She may have left the superintendent job to care for her mother, who died in 1925. After leaving the superintendent job she lived briefly in Omaha with her brother and sister in law, Fred and Agnes Rasmussen. She then moved to Kansas City, where we find her in 1930 selling educational materials.

In 1940 she lived with her sister and brother in law, David and Anna Potter in Overton, Dawson County, NE. She is listed as a widow, unable to work, but there is no evidence she was ever married.

Amelia is buried in the Overton cemetery.

Her niece remembered her as a small woman who played a large harp.
