Facts and Events
The Pettus Cemetery is in York County, SC, located off of Pleasant Road, north of Fort Mill (#160 N, turn right onto Pleasant Road at Philadelphia Methodist Church). After crossing over Steele Creek, turn into Saddlegate Subdivision, next right road above the creek. At the top of hill is a small picnic area with benches and a small white picket fence enclosure. The remaining tombstones were all pushed together, laid flat and side by side, and the fence built around them. The site is believed to be the site of the home of Capt. George Pettus and his wife, Jane Knox. William Pettus, George's brother, and his wife, Mary Knox, the sister of Jane, were members of Flint Hill Baptist Church and most of their family are buried in the Flint Hill cemetery. |
