  • March 5, 1727. - Thomas Chew of St. Geo. Par., Spts. Co., Gentl., to John Penn and George Penn of Drysdale Par., King and Queen Co. £40 curr., 614 a. formerly occupied by one Samll. Loyd—part of a pat. granted Larkin Chew June 4, 1722; sold by sd. Chew to sd. Loyd, by sd. Loyd and Chew to one Wm. Russell by deeds July 7, 1724, and by the sd. Russell sold to Thomas Chew, on a branch running into Mattapony River, otherwise called Warner's River, joining the lands of Robt. Hutcherson and the land of Augustine Smith of Gloster Co., late called Augustine Warner, Esqr., Decd., land. Witnesses: Wm. Johnson, John Chew, James Taylor. Rec. March 6, 1727-8.   • 28 September 1728 - George Penn "of King & Queen County" received a land patent of 1,000 acres in Spotsylvania Co., VA adjacent to Zachary Taylor. On 1 Sept. 1730 George Penn "of Drysdale Parish and Caroline County" deeded this land to David Williams.

On 4th May, 1782, Gabriel Penn conveyed to George Coleman 562 acres in Amherst. Gabriel died, testate, in Amherst, leaving children, viz: James and Edmund Penn; Elizabeth, wife of William Long; late Elizabeth Callaway, widow of James Callaway; Sophia, wife of William S. Crawford; Pamelia, wife of Thomas Haskins; Matilda, wife of Abner Nash; Fannie, wife of William White; Nancy, widow of John McCredie, deceased, late widow of Alexander Brydie; Sarah, wife of Thomas Crews (poss. Edward Watson answers, he holds by deeds from Henry and George Gilbert sons of Henry Gilbert, who purchased from Carter 6th October, 1774. Will Long answers, holds by marriage with wife Elizabeth, part was conveyed by Braxton to David Shepherd, remainder is part of Gilbert's purchase. Samuel Meredith answers. Information on George Penn

Some sources claim that George Penn married Ann Fleming, daughter of Charles Fleming and Susannah Tarleton. [Note: this has been dis-proven]

After George Penn's death, his widow Ann married Thomas Dudley in 1755/56; Penn children in her will of 1794 were Frances, b 1735 and married Ambrose Lee; George, b 1737, Philip, Gabriel, Abram, William, and Moses.

    The will of George Penn was destroyed but there is a record of his widow, Ann, presenting it for probate in Caroline County, VA on September 8, 1749. Ann, his widow, remarried to Thomas Dudley and this caused a second court proceeding on Jan 8, 1756. Moses Penn was named one of the executors.

    Ann died in 1764. [s/b 1794] Her will was dated May 5, 1764 [s/b 1794] and probated in Amherst County, VA July 21, 1764. [s/b 1794] Ann Dudley named five children in her will: Frances Tucker, George Penn, Phillip Penn, Gabriel Penn and Abraham Penn.

    Her son William Penn never married. He enlisted into the Continental Army in 1776 and was a Lieutenant. He died in 1777. Before he entered the army he made a will which was probated in Amherst County on July 7, 1777. In it he names his brothers, George Penn, Philip Penn, Gabriel Penn and Abraham Penn. His brothers were to share equally if he did not return. William received 2,666.66 acres of land in Kentucky for his service.

    Another brother, Moses Penn, had died in 1774. He wrote a will Aug 3, 1774 and it was probated Oct 3, 1774 in Amherst County. In it Moses names: brother Phillip Penn, Parmelia Penn daughter of his brother Gabriel Penn, George Penn son of his brother George Penn and his brother William Penn. He loaned William a slave for his journey through some of the southern states. Moses Penn also named his nephews Frank and Richard Lee and niece Nancy Lee. He also mentioned a John Conner "for waiting on me in my sickness."

    Abraham Penn was a Colonel in the Henry County Militia. He was very influential during the was and there is now an Abram Penn Chapter of the DAR. Abraham died June 26, 1801 in Patrick County, VA. William Hannah was witness to the inventory. William Hannah was the son-in-law of his brother Phillip Penn.

    Both George Penn and Gabriel Penn also served in the Revolution until the surrender at Yorktown.
