Marriage cert: http://www.rootsweb.com/~gabartow/images/marriage/bookE/baDSC00352.JPG From: leon Culberson, Jr. <dlcjr@@bellsouth.net>: “George Peyton Morrow settled in the Bartow/Floyd County area of Georgia in the 1850s. He married Catherine Newman and fathered 7 children. One of those was Ida Isabelle who married my Great Grandfather, James Martin Culberson. Peyton served in the 40th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and is buried in the Snow Springs Baptist Church Cemetery near Adairsville, Georgia. Peyton Morrow was from the Mecklenburg County area of North Carolina. His father was Issac Morrow born about 1792 and his mother was Elizabeth, last name unknown, born about 1801. Elizabeth came with Peyton Morrow to Georgia and lived into the 1900's. His brothers and sisters were Mary M., Nancy K., Young, and Robert. George Peyton's children were Elizabeth, Francis, James M., Rachael Ann?, George Felton, Harvey McKnight and Ida Isabelle. They certainly like d to "reuse" names. George Felton and Harvey McKnight, and their wives, are buried next to their father and mother at Snow Springs. I haven't found James M as yet, but I will. George Felton's death was reported by the wife of one of James Martin Culberson's brothers. Harvey McKnight witnessed Mary Culberson's, James Martin's mother, application for a Widows Pension for her late husbands Civil war service in 1908. Apparently the Morrows and Culbersons were close friends and neighbors. I continue to try and track down any living descendants. I have received information that the Culberson link to the Cherokees is probably thru the Culbersons, not the Morrows. As general info, George Peyton Morrow was 5 feet seven inches tall, dark hair, dark complexion, grey eyes. This info comes from the Oath Of Allegiance record that he took after the Civil War. Also, his tombstone indicates that he was a Mason.” Daughters Ida Isabelle m. James Culberson, Elizabeth, Francis, Rachel. |
