Death Notices George Norman Pierce Leetch Naples, FL George Norman Pierce Leetch, formerly of State College, PA, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Bentley Village, Naples, FL, at the age of 94. He was born on April 4, 1909 in Far Rockaway, NY, one of five children of Robert G. and Louisa Day Leetch. The family moved to Jerusalem Corners, NY, where Robert Leetch served as pastor of the Evans Church until 1922. After living just one year in Beverly, MA, the family moved to Baltimore, MD, where Robert Leetch was a pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church on North Charles Street until his retirement. George Leetch completed his education in Baltimore, then enrolled as an English major at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Unsure of his goals and with his parents approval, he dropped out of college at the end of his second year. He worked briefly for the Maryland Casualty (Insurance) Company, then accepted a post teaching mathematics at the McDonough School. He completed his bachelor's degree at North Carolina in 1937 while on sabbatical from the McDounough School. He then enrolled as a graduate student in the Psychology Department at Pennsylvania State College where he received a Master of Education degree in 1941. He was asked to organize and direct the Placement Office at the College and remained as Director of the University's Placement Office until his retirement in 1963. In 1931, he married Dorothy Counselman Griffing of Riverhead, Long Island, who died in 1997. Their only child, Barbara Leetch Schmalz died in State College in 1997 Mr. Leetch is survived by his younger sister, Helen Leetch Hall of Kennebunk, ME; by grandchildren, Timothy F. Schmalz of Moretown, VT and Dorothy Louise Schmalz of State College; and by a great-granddaughter, Olivia Louise Schmalz of Moretown, VT. He was a longtime member of Centre Hills Country Club, and of several professional organizations. In Naples, he was a member of Moorings Country Club, the Audubon Society, the Southwest Florida Conservancy and he served on the Board of the Naples Yacht Club. No memorial service is planned, but memorial contributions may be made to the Schlow Memorial Library Building Fund in State College, or to the Collier County Audubon Society, P.O.
