George Croushore (grandfather) was born near Grapeville on the farm now known as the old Smaile farm, August 12, 1765, where he was raised, and married Margaret Meyers and died on the farm February 13, 1814, being forty-eight years of age: his wife remaining on the farm until her death February 25, 1838, aged seventy two-years. He was a stanch democrat, a leading member of the German Reformed church at Brush Creek, having served as elder and deacon. To them were born twelve children, ten girls and two boys, all of whom are dead except Lucy (Croushore) Shearer, now living at Harrison City, Westmoreland county, Pa., with her daughter Sarah McMichael, being over eighty years of age.
