ANORTHER DROWNING CASE IN GLO'STER
INQUEST
Mr. H. Morton-York, at the Bridge Inn, Westgate-street, yesterday evening, held an inquest on the body of George William Paris Jones, aged about 46, a married man, whose death was occasioned by drowning in the Severn under the following cirumstances. Mr. W. Ford was chosen foreman of the jury.
Mrs. Tranter, of 4, Berkeley-street, deposed that the deceased lodged at her house. She had known him for about two years, he having lodged with her during that period. He was a musician, and played the harp in Leche's band. He left Gloucester with them, but returned on the 13th July, when he was in a low state of mind, was not in good health, and was in pecuniary difficulties. On Wednesday last witness and her daughter went to the Albert Hall and returned as 10.30, when deceased went to bed apparently in his usual health. That was the last time she saw him alive. She spoke of a letter which had been shown to her by a man in Cheltenham, to whom deceased owed money for clothes, in which another member of the band had spoken disparagingly of him. He denied it when she spoke to him about it, and said that something would surprise her very much some morning. The next morning he went out early, and afterwards said he had been to Westgate bridge, and had a great mind "to go over." He corresponded with his wife, but witness did not think they were on the best of terms. On Thursday morning a towel was missing from his bedroom. Deceased had never been out bathing in the morning before.
By a juryman: He did drink, but witness had never seen him drunk.
Mr. Alfred Keene, of 59, Westgate-street, deposed to seeing the deceased go towards Westgate Bridge with a towel across his shoulder.
Alfred Hall, of 48, St. Phillip-street, brick worker, said that at 10 minutes to six on Thursday morning he was going to work when he saw the deceased's body in the river on the other side of the Black Bridge. He went to the police and reported it, and when he returned the body was in a boat.
William Parker, of Sweetbriar-street, labourer, said his attention was called to the body of the deceased by the last witness. He got the body out of the water. It was in a nude state with the exception of a pair of pants, Witness saw some clothes on the steps by the side of the water about 50 yards from where the body was. Life was extinct.
Mrs. Trant, recalled: Deceased could not swim.
A verdict of accidentally drowned while bathing was returned.

FOUND DROWNED.-George William Paris Jones, a harpist, was found drowned in the river Severn, at Gloucester, on the 14th instant. The deceased's wife until recently kept the Somerset Arms, Canal-walk, in this town. An inquest on the body was held on Friday.
