1869 Cumberland Co, VA births, 1853-1896 August 1869 John Johnson born to Emily Johnson, father unknown. Considering the fact that our George Johnson was supposedly born September 1869 in Cumberland Co and his mother was Emily Johnson, I think this “John” Johnson is actually our George. However, more research is needed to verify. There are no other Johnson boy birth records in Cumberland County for this general time.

Their children: Lucy 18, John W. 10, James 9, Victoria 8, George T. 6, Virginia 4-2/12, Louiezer (Louise?) 3, and Ollie, 11 mos. All mulatto, all b. VA.

VA, was 19 at the time of his first marriage, owned their farm on Cartersville Road, worked as a grist farmer, could not read or write, and was not a veteran. No value stated for property owned. Nellie, 54, b. VA, both parents b. VA, was 15 at the time of her first marriage, couldn’t read or write, and did not work outside the home. Their children: Ethel 16, Helen 14, Mabel 10, all b. VA. Also living with them, their grandson James L., 5, b. VA, both parents b. VA.

1950 May 28, 1950, VA Death Certificate No. 11056, Father = Robert Johnson, mother = Emalee Johnson. Born in Cumberland Co, VA, age at death, 66. Cause of death bilateral broncho pneumonia and carcinoma of prostate. H.G. Langford, M.D., Robert C. Scott, Inc. funeral home. He was buried on 5/31/1950 at 3rd Liberty Church Cemetery, New Canton, VA. His wife was Nellie Johnson, and he died at St. Philip’s Hospital, Richmond, VA. Informant was “Hospital Records.”
