Personal History

George Francis Hamilton[2] was born 17 December 1845[1] (registered in the district of Brighton, co. Sussex).[2]

George entered Harrow School in 1858 and left in 1863.[12]

In 1864,[5] George was made an ensign, by purchase, in the Rifle Brigade. In 1868,[6] he transferred to the Coldstream Guards and was promoted to a lieutenant, by purchase. In 1869, he retired[7] and shortly afterward signed a commission to be a lieutenant in the London Scottish Rifle Volunteer Corps.[8] George retired from the Royal Tyrone Fusiliers as a captain in 1876.[9]

On 4 April 1878,[10] George was appointed by Queen Victoria to Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council (PC).

On 1 January 1903,[11] George was appointed by King Edward VII to be a Knight Grand Commander of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India (GCSI).

George was one of the executors of his mother's will in 1905.

Lord George F. Hamilton, M.P., third son of the Duke of Abercorn, and Lady Maud Caroline Lascelles, youngest daughter of Henry, third Earl of Harewood, were married 28 November 1871 at Seal, co. Kent (registered in the district of Sevenoaks).

Death and Probate

The Rt. Hon. Lord George Francis Hamilton died 22 September 1927[4] (registered in the district of St Marylebone).[3]

On 17 November 1927,[4] in London, administration was granted to his sons Ronald James and Anthony George. Effects were in the amount of £53,568 15s 5d.
