George William EMEIGH is the second child of Margaret “Jennie” McBride Emeigh and Charles Emeigh. He was born in Port Byron, Rock Island Co., IL, on April 20, 1870. In 1880, at age 10, George lived with his mother, brother Charles, and his grandmother Hannah in Rock Island, IL. His father was listed in the 1880 census as a head of the household, but at that time (June 1880), Charles was a lodger/barber in Deadwood, SD. The next record of George is 30 years later during the 1910 census, when he was married, had two children (Alberthea and George F.), worked as a sign painter-artist, and lived on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, NY. George’s brother, Charles P., had followed him from Illinois to Brooklyn. Another Curtis, Harry, a few years younger than the brothers, also lived in New York City. Harry could have been a cousin who enticed his cousins to move to New York. The census record indicates that George married Matilda REGOLD about 1893. She was born about 1875 in NY. By 1910 she was the mother of three children, although I have not identified the third child. Matilda’s mother, Alberthea REGOLD, age 76, born in Germany, lived with this family in 1910.,
