"The will of George Downing, Citizen and Alderman of Norwich, co. Norfolk, was dated 20 October 1617, and proved on 8 December 1617. In the registered copy, parts of it are unreadable, but for this brief report the loss is not serious. He named his brother's children William Downing, Edward, Maria, Edmund and Henrie. He bequeathed to his wife Susan and her daughter Anne, her son Edward Pye, her son-in-law Mr. Bassingbone Throgmorton, and her son Henrie Pye. He gave a legacy to 'George Downinge my sonne and Dorcas nowe his wife by the name of Dorcas Bloyse one of the daughters of William Bloyse of Ipswich, co. Suffolk gentleman.' He also bequeathed to Robert Debney, to 'Thomas Rushbrooke my sonne in Lawe.' to 'my first wifes children,' to 'susan my wifes children,' and to 'all my Brothers & sisters children.' He listed properties in several places: Barnham Broom in co. Norfolk; Ilketshall St. Andrew, Ilketshall St. Lawrence; and Ilketshall St. Johns in co. Suffolk (the Ilketshall parishes are near the South Elmham parishes where lived Robert Downing, the 'cosen' of George Downing of Beccles."[1] References
