(_____) Downing was born say 1510, possibly of Norwich, Norfolk. He had at least five children: George, whose will was proved in 1617, the brother whose children George named in his will, another brother to George (George named "brothers" in his will), and "sisters" to George, mentioned in his will. This family has been incidentally constructed while reading many wills to try to learn the parentage of George Downing of Beccles. With similar names and close locales to the Beccles family, probably the two groups are branches of the same family, with a common ancestor a few generations earlier.
