Thomas George Dark, 58, of 10207 121 St., Edmonton optometrist and well known curler here for many years, died in city hospital Tuesday.
A native of Brussels, Ont., Mr. Dark moved to Saskatchewan at an early age and began training as a pharmacist, graduating from the University of Saskatchewan prior to the First Great War. Mr. Dark apprenticed for a short time with a drug firm in Battleford, and later established his own pharmacy at Biggar, Sask. where he began his training in optometry.
In 1919 Mr. Dark moved to Edmonton where he pioneered the firm of Dark, Carter and Francis.
Mr. Dark was well known in Edmonton curling circles. As a member of the Royal Curling Club for nearly 20 years, he figured prominently in the provincial and city bonspiels.
He is a former member of the Mayfair Golf Club and the Edmonton Golf and Country Club, and was associated for many years with the Edmonton Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club and the Al Azhar Temple.
Rev. Angus MacQueen will officiate at funeral services Thursday 3:30 p.m. at Howard and McBride's chapel. Surviving are his widow and one son, William, both of Edmonton.
