GWR shares were transacted on marriage, 1888, of Annie Niven McLean Masterton, Carrick House, Suffolk Lawn, Cheltenham, and 26 Coates Gdns, Edinburgh, to George David Ballingall, 16 Castle St., Edinburgh; the Cheltenham address was home of the aunt of Annie, Mary Ann Lochhead nee McLean, wife of Rev John Lochhead (findmypast). 1881 census: George D. Ballingall (b. 1852 Renfrewshire) was a lodger in Edinburgh. 1891 census: Annie N. M. Ballingall (b.1864, Hamilton, Ontario) with George K. Ballingall, W. S. (writer to Signet) (b.1852 Killarchen, Renfrewshire), at 4 Lansdowne Crescent, Edinburgh, with daughter Ella M. (b.1890, Edinburgh). In 1901 George D. Ballingall (b. 1852 Lochwinnoch, Renfrew, W.S.), wife Ann M.M. (1864 Hamilton, Canada), children (b. Edinburgh) Ella M. (b. 1890) David R.N. (1895) were at 4 Lansdowne Cres., Edinburgh (census).

Ballingall, WS and NP, (Fraser, Stodart & Ballingall) was registered at 4 Lansdowne Crescent, Edinburgh (Slater’s Directory of Scotland); the initials are probably Writer to the Signet and Notary Public. On death, 21feb1905, of Peter Ballingall, 14 Queens Cresc., Edinburgh, sometime Bank of Scotland, Greenock, formerly 187 Cathcart St., Greenock, stock was transmitted to George David Ballingall, WS, 16 Castle St., Edinburgh, and David Ballingall, Blair Drummond, Stirling (GWR shares, findmypast). In 1905 G. D. Ballingall (male) travelled by ship from Liverpool to New York (ancestorsonboard). George David Ballingall, aged 53, married, occupation WS, Scottish, last residence Edinburgh, arrived at New York 6sep1905 on ship “Majestic” from Liverpool. He had been previously in the USA in 1891 to Missouri and his final destination was “travelling” (ellisisland). In 1920-21 G. D. Ballingall, 16 Castle St., was in the Society of writers to H. M. Signet (Edinburgh P.O. Directory). The Times, 19apr1939: Norwich Union Life Insurance reported the death of their Scottish local director since 1901 - G. D. Ballingall, W.S.
