Comments: Exec. Dept. Dec. 6, 1834. It appears by the records of this department that on the 23 Dec., 1833, additional L. B. was granted to the heirs of George Dent Alexander for his services as a Surgeon in the State line to the end of the war. William Richardson, Sect. of Commonwealth.; The certificate of Col. Grayson filed in this department,; [p.134] ; states that George Dent Alexander was appointed Surgeon of his Regt. in Feb., 1777, and that he died at Philadelphia while in service, Jan., 1780. B. to the heirs of George Dent Alexander on the 23 Dec., 1833 in the State line must have been erroneous, as also from Col. Graysohs certificate that he belonged to the Contl. line. General, Mar. 22, 1841, I think the Register ought to issue the warrant on the Exec. certificate, as to amount, and for service in the Contl. line, it appearing from the certificate of the Sect of the Comwth. that the service was in the Contl. line.; Henry Northrup was appointed Atty. by Walter S. Alexander of Alexandria Co. D.C. in right of George D. Alexander, his late uncles service as a Surgeon in the Rev. war. 9 Feb., 1841. Witness, Samuel D. King.; Washington Co., D. C. As legatee of his late father, Robert Alexander; whose will was recorded at Fairfax Court House in the year 1794 or 95--Walter Alexander ackn. the above power of Atty. before Samuel D. King, J. of P. Attest, William Brent, Clerk, Washington Co. 9 Feb., 1841.; Warrant 8937 for 141 acres and warrant 8938 for 141 acres issued Mar. 22, 1841 to Walter S. Alexander, son and devisee of Robert Alexander, one of the devisees of George D. Alexander. Recorded Book 3, page 497.; Fairfax Co. court, Oct., 1834. On motion of George D. Alexander, and by satisfactory evidence:--That Robert and Philip Alexander who were citizens of Fairfax Co. were the brothers of and devisees of Dr. George Alexander, late of said Co. and was a Surgeon in the Va. Contl. line in the war of the Rev. That the said Robert and Philip died testate, and their wills are recorded in the clerks office of Fairfax Co. That Walter Alexander now a citizen of Fairfax county is named in the will of Robert Alexander and that George D. Alexander is named in the will of Philip Alexander; that Philip, Gerrard and Austin Alexander other devisees of Philip are dead, and had no children. Therefore Walter and George D. Alexander are the sole surviving legates respectively of [p.135] ; said Robert and Philip Alexander. Ordered certified. Copy teste, William Moss, Clerk.; Abstract of George D. Alexanders will. All his land and negroes to his mother; the rest of personal estate to be equally divided between his two brothers, Robert and Philip. He declines giving any part of his estate to his brother Gerrard; to George W. Lewis, a negro boy called Gerrard; to Betsey Lewis and to Austin Lewis, he makes bequests. Signed, 10 Sept., 1777. He appointed His brothers Robert and Philip as his executors. Witnesses, William Grayson, A. C. Hanson, Daniel Rose, Jr. On June 24, 1778 he altered his will in regards to two bequests; one, to his sister Margen Nobles child. The will was proved Fairfax Co. 18 May, 1784. At a court held 19 July, 1786 Robert Alexander was granted administration. Copy teste, William Moss, Clerk.; Abstract of Philip Alexanders will. He appointed his wife as Extrx. To his son Philip the plantation on which he lived, and the land as far as the road that goes to Alexandria, from Georgetown, and what he was entitled to under his brother Georges will, together with one half the land contained in a warrant to Robert Alexander. This warrant to be equally divided between his other three sons, George, Gerrard and Austin. Son Philip now under age.
