Generoso emigrated to the US from Italy in 1916. He entered by way of New York. He went to Duluth and was a salesman for a wholesale grocer. One of his customers was Mr. DeSanto, Anna's father, who owned a grocery store in the West End of Duluth (the Italian area).

Generoso and Anna then opened a grocery store in Keewatin, MN, a tiny mining town on the Iron Range. Generoso was a very successful businessman and built a beautiful lake home and grounds on Swan Lake near Pengilly, MN. The lake cabin and grounds were famous for the intricate rock work paths, wishing well, and tiny bridges that Generoso created by hand.
