    The family farm in Long Island was bequeathed to the Oldest son, Marten. Gerret Schenck being the youngest and a third brother, Jan moved to Pleasant Valley, Monmouth Co., NJ in 1697. Gerret accumulated a handsome estate before his death in 1745. He was one of the first Deacons of the Reformed Dutch Church of Freehold, organized in 1709. For six years, 1721 to 1727 he represented Monmouth County in the Provincial Assembly of New Jersey.

    Garret Roelofse Schenck was born on 27 Oct 1671. He died on 5 Sep 1745 at Pleasant Valley, Monmouth Co., NJ, at age 73. He was buried at Schenck Couwenhoven Cem., Pleasant Valley, Monmouth Co., NJ. Garret and Leeltje moved to Pleasant Valley, Monmouth Co., NJ, about 1696. Two views of their home on the west side of Matawan Holmdel road can be found in Beekman's, Early Dutch Settlers in Monmouth County, pg. 12. The house is also mentioned in R. Bailey, Pre-Revolutionary Dutch Houses, pg. 406.

    He was a charter member and elder of the Reformed Church in Freehold and member of the Provincial Assembly of NJ.

    The will of Garret Schenck of Middletown, Monmouth Co., NJ, was dated 12 Jan 1739 and probated 7 Oct 1745. It mentions his wife Neelkie, sons Roeloffe (to receive the great Dutch Bible), Garrat, Koert, John, Albert and daughters Mary, Alkie, Neelkie, Rachel, and Margaret and granddaughter Nelly. The excutors were his wife, son Roeloffe and son-in-law Hendrick Hendrickson; witnesses Johannes Bennet, Roelof Covenhoven and Robert Dodsworth.
