Garland E. Ridenour, 77, Burlington, died at 11:10 a.m. October 9, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, after a brief illness.
Mr. Ridenour was a retired Warren Township farmer and moved from Clinton County to Burlington in 1987. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, Frankfort Eagles and Moose lodges. He was a life member and past commander of the Frankfort V.F.W. post, and a life member of the American Legion. He also served on the Farm Bureau and AgMax boards for 25 years.
He was a 1942 graduate of Michigantown High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tank driver attached to General George Patton’s third Army. He served from 1942-1945 in Europe, and was a life member of the 14th Armored Division.
He was born May 19, 1922, in Clinton County, to Edd and Mabel Laughner Ridenour. He married Marjorie Lou Reed on April 22, 1944, and she survives.
He also is survived by four sons, Steven of Wyncote, Pennsylvania, Craig of Los Angeles, California, Douglas of Michigantown and Ed of Frankfort; two brothers, Harley D. and Reldo, both of Frankfort; three sisters, Maxine Sproal, Irene Richey and Audrey Meadors, all of Frankfort; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Whiteman Cemetery, Michigantown. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday.
