Letter to Ellen Luehr from Martha, one of Fred Luehr's children, 1940. Transcribed: RELuehr 3/06 Grandfather Bublitz (Frederick Bublitz) was a carpenter by trade and was born near Berlin. He often helped at the Kaisers at the big feasts. I heard him tell how swell the feasts were and how many hours they ate. When they (guests) were all through, the help could eat all they could hold. But the food was so rich, they could only try about half of feast. Ask Bert (Albert Luehr) if he every heard Grandfather Bublitz tell how he crawled into a casket and always pushed the lid up to make it rattle. And the lady of the house nearly cracked her neck going down stairs so fast. In Germany everybody had their casket in the store room, ready (only for full growns). This was when he (Grandfather) was 14 or 15 and he was working for these folks. He came to America with his family. They settled in Wisconsin near Milwaukee, their __ near Postville (about 2 miles out at Springfield). Lots of the first houses ___ were built by Grandfather. Later they moved to French Creek.
I have pictures of the castle (needs a little work). If anyone is interested, email me, or you can search on google for Bobolice and look for pictures (most of the links will be in Polish) References
